Ashikaga Takauji drove Emperor Go-Daigo from Kyoto in 1336 and founded a shogunate there, which moved its headquarters to the city's Muromachi district in 1378. The Ōnin War, from 1467, wrecked Kyoto and shogunal authority. Oda Nobunaga banished the last Ashikaga shogun in 1573.
