A Greek-ruled Hellenistic state founded by Seleucus I from Alexander's conquests. At its height it stretched from Anatolia to Afghanistan. It lost the east to Parthia and Bactria, Anatolia to Rome, and ended when Pompey made Syria a Roman province.
